What if the Spurs, Suns, and Trail Blazers finish with identical records?

With two games left in the regular season for the Spurs, Phoenix Suns, and Portland Trail Blazers, the Spurs could finish the season tied with the Suns and Blazers.

The Scenario

Let’s look at each team’s final two games:

• Spurs (33-47), 8th in lottery order: Friday in Phoenix, Sunday in Toronto

• Suns (35-45) 9th in lottery order: Friday vs Spurs, Sunday in Sacramento

• Trail Blazers (35-45) 10th in lottery order: Friday vs Warriors, Sunday vs Lakers

For all three teams to finish with tied records, the Spurs would have to finish 2-0, the Suns would need to go 0-2, and Portland would have to finish 0-2.

This would mean all three teams would end the season with identical 35-47 records.

What if this happens?

Should two or three of these teams finish with identical records, a random drawing will determine the lottery order in late April. The drawings are conducted at the league office in New Jersey, and an announcement of the results is usually made public in late April. Last year, the random drawing took place on April 22.
