Atlanta Hawks 2024 Free Agents
Saddiq Bey is among six Atlanta Hawks players entering free agency July 1.
Each offseason, I usually make a list of free agents by their name, height, and type of free agent they’ll be on July 1. This upcoming offseason, I wanted to have a quick guide for the free agents, where you can quickly find out who the player is by their base stats and shot breakdown.
Let’s first begin with the Atlanta Hawks, by looking at their cap sheet.
The Hawks have a lot of decisions to make this offseason with the direction they’ll take their team as they address multiple questions: Will they trade Dejounte Murray or Trae Young? Who will they draft with the 1st overall pick, or will they trade the pick? Will they look to move Clint Capela?
As the Hawks address some of these questions in the next two months, they’ve also got six players entering free agency. Let’s dive into the free agents.
Saddiq Bey 6’7” - Unrestricted Free Agent
63 games played, 32.7 minutes
Offense - 13.7 points on 11.1 shots, 3.2 free throw attempts (83.7% FT), 1.5 assists to 0.9 turnovers
If Bey wasn’t launching from three first, he was trying to score near the rim second. Defenses left him wide open on 76% of his 3-point attempts, where he made 34% of his wide open looks.
Defense - 6.5 rebounds, 0.8 steals, 0.2 blocks, 1.4 personal fouls, 1.4 deflections, 3.3 contested shots
Position - Wing. Bey played 70% of his minutes at the 3 and 29% of his minutes at the 4 this past season per CleaningTheGlass.com
Free agent status - Bey will be an unrestricted free agent.
Injury note - In early March, Bey suffered a torn ACL that sidelined him for the remainder of the season. He had successful surgery in late March, and the type of injury he suffered means he’s likely out 8 to 12 months. If that’s the case, Bey likely wouldn’t return to the court until an early timeline of December to a late timeline of February. The Hawks have full bird rights on Bey if they choose to re-sign him.
NBA Experience - At 25, Bey has 4 years of NBA experience.
Wesley Matthews 6’5” - Unrestricted Free Agent
36 games played, 11.5 minutes
Offense - 3.1 points on 2.7 shots, 0.7 free throw attempts (75% FT), 0.6 assists to 0.2 turnovers
Defense - 1.5 rebounds, 0.4 steals, 0.3 blocks, 1.2 personal fouls, 1.2 deflections, 1.4 contested shots
Position - Wing. Matthews played 75% of his minutes at the 3 and 19% of his time, he was at the 4, per CleaningTheGlass.com
Free agent status - Matthews will be an unrestricted free agent. He’ll have a $2 million cap hold on the Hawks’ books coming off a veteran minimum contract. The Hawks will have non-bird rights if they wanted to re-sign Matthews.
NBA Experience - At 37, Matthews has 15 years of NBA experience.
Trent Forrest 6’4” - Unrestricted Free Agent
38 games played, 10.9 minutes
Offense - 2.2 points on 2.4 shots, 0.4 free throw attempts (76.5% FT), 2.4 assists to 0.5 turnovers
Defense - 1.3 rebounds, 0.3 steals, 0.1 blocks, 0.7 personal fouls, 0.7 deflections, 1.1 contested shots
Position - Combo guard. Forrest played 49% of his minutes at the 2 and 46% of his minutes at the 1 per CleaningTheGlass.com
Free agent status - Similar to Matthews, Forrest will be an unrestricted free agent coming off a veteran minimum contract. Forrest will have a $2 million cap hold on the Hawks’ cap sheet with early bird rights, should Atlanta want to re-sign him.
NBA Experience - At 25, Forrest has 4 years of NBA experience.
The Two-Way Free Agents - Dylan Windler, Vit Krejci, Seth Lundy
Krejci and Lundy will be restricted free agents. Windler will be an unrestricted free agent.
Windler will have a $2.4 million cap hold, Krejci a $1.8 million cap hold, and Lundy a $1.8 million cap hold on the Hawks’ cap sheet this summer.
