Chicago Bulls 2024 Free Agents
DeMar DeRozan and Patrick Williams will be two key players entering free agency this offseason, and the Chicago Bulls could have up to 8 players heading into free agency.
Before going in-depth on the Chicago Bulls’ upcoming free agents, let’s first look at their cap sheet.
The Bulls will have 10 players with guaranteed deals for next season once the Josh Giddey for Alex Caruso trade is made official.
The Bulls will have 6 players enter free agency July 1, but that could stretch to 8 players.
The Bulls have until opening night to decide if Onurlap Bitim’s $1.8 million contract will partially guarantee for $350K. Torrey Craig can also become a free agent if he declines his player option.
Even if all the Bulls’ free agents were to walk, they wouldn’t be a cap space team this offseason.
Now let’s look at Chicago’s free agents.
DeMar DeRozan 6’6” - Unrestricted Free Agent
79 games played (96% of season), 37.8 minutes
Position - Forward. DeRozan played 59% of his minutes at the 4 and 40% of his minutes at the 3, per CleaningTheGlass.com.
Free agent status - If the Bulls and DeRozan wanted to avoid free agency all together, they could get an extension done before June 30. If not, DeRozan will become an unrestricted free agent July 1 with a $42.9 million cap hold on the Bulls’ books, with full bird rights.
NBA Experience - DeRozan will be 35 when next season begins, with 15 years of NBA experience.
In a recent report from Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, all indications currently point to DeRozan re-signing with the Bulls this offseason. Scotto did mention the Los Angeles Clippers as a team to watch as a sign-and-trade option for DeRozan, in the event Paul George left the Clippers this summer.
Patrick Williams 6’7” - Restricted Free Agent - RE-SIGNING WITH BULLS FOR 5 YEARS, $90 MILLION
43 games played (52% of season), 27.3 minutes
Position - Forward. Williams played 95% of his minutes at the 4 per CleaningTheGlass.com.
Free agent status - The Bulls can make Williams a restricted free agent by tendering him a $12.9 million qualifying offer by June 29.
NBA Experience - Williams will be 23 next season, with 4 years of NBA experience.
Williams was only able to play in half the season after sustaining a left foot injury (stress reaction) in late January. That injury required surgery in late February, and Williams had to miss the rest of the season.
Rotowire has Williams’ estimated return date to the court as October.
Back in late April, Bulls Vice President of Basketball Operations Arturas Karnisovas, said the team hopes to re-sign Williams this offseason.
Andre Drummond 6’11” - Unrestricted Free Agent
79 games played (96% of season), 17.1 minutes
Position - Center. Drummond logged all of his minutes at center per CleaningTheGlass.com.
Free agent status - Drummond will be an unrestricted free agent with a $4.3 million cap hold and early bird rights on Chicago’s cap sheet.
NBA Experience - Drummond will be 31 when next season begins, with 12 years of NBA experience.
Javonte Green 6’5” - Unrestricted Free Agent
9 games played (11% of season), 25.6 minutes
Position - Forward. Green played 85% of his minutes at the 4 per CleaningTheGlass.com.
Free agent status - Green will be an unrestricted free agent with a $2 million cap hold and non-bird rights on the Bulls’ cap sheet.
NBA Experience - Green will be 31 when next season begins, with 5 years of NBA experience.
While Green’s numbers on both ends, plus his shooting, really pop off the page, it’s important to remember he wasn’t on an NBA team for most of last season, until Chicago signed him in early April to finish out the season.
The Two-Way Free Agents - Henri Drell, Adama Sanogo
The Bulls have until June 29 to tender $1.8 million qualifying offers to Drell and Sanogo, which would make both players restricted free agents to return on two-way contracts.
Drell played in 4 games with Chicago this season and Sanogo played in 9 games.
Should the Spurs try to sign any of Chicago’s free agents?
