How the Spurs shot the ball this season
How did the Spurs' rotation players individually shoot the ball this season?
With the San Antonio Spurs’ 2024-25 season complete, it’s time to reflect on how each Spurs player shot the ball this season. I’m primarily going to focus on the players in the rotation for most of the season, but I’ll also display the shot charts for some of the players at the end of the rotation toward the end of this piece.
I will list the rotation players by shots per 48 minutes. From there, you’ll see the shot diet for each player, and there will be some commentary about what stood out from that player’s shot chart.
Outside refers to over 20% of shot attempts from the 3-point line for the shot diets. Inside refers to over 20% of shots from the paint, and mid-range refers to over 20% of shots from the mid-range.
Points per Shot is calculated by taking points per 48 minutes divided by shots per 48 minutes.
Victor Wembanyama - 29.9 shots per 48 minutes
Shot diet: Outside - Inside - Some mid-range
Free Throw Attempts: 4.1 per game (83.6%) - 3rd on team
Points Per Shot: 1.17 - 2nd among 9-man rotation
It’s important to remember that Wemby only played in 46 games after a blood clot was discovered during the All-Star break, forcing him to miss the second half of the season.
No matter where he was in the paint, Victor was quite efficient when he took a shot from there. He also improved his wide-open three to 40%, and the numbers say he was a much more accurate shooter when catching and shooting than pulling up from long range.
Wemby only took 17% of his shots from mid-range, but he can continue to improve in that area when the defense tries to prevent him from catching inside or off pick-and-pops.
De’Aaron Fox - 26.2 shots per 48
