San Antonio Spurs 2024 Free Agents
Cedi Osman, Sandro Mamukelashvili, Dominick Barlow, and David Duke Jr. are the four Spurs players who will enter free agency July 1.
Before going in-depth on the San Antonio Spurs’ upcoming free agents, let’s first look at their cap sheet.
Right now, the Spurs only have 4 players entering free agency with Cedi Osman, Sandro Mamukelashvili, Dominick Barlow, and David Duke Jr.
However, the team has until July 1 to decide whether Devonte’ Graham’s $12.6 million salary will be guaranteed for next season, and they have until August 1 to decide on Julian Champagnie’s $3 million non-guaranteed deal, as well as Charles Bassey’s $2.5 million non-guaranteed deal.
With Graham, Champagnie, and Bassey on the roster, the Spurs are an over-the-cap team with access to the $12.8 million non-tax mid-level exception and the $4.6 million bi-annual exception.
If the Spurs waive those players, plus allow their free agents to walk, they can open up to $21 million in cap space. So basically, whether Graham and Bassey are on the team next season hinders on whether or not the Spurs want to be a cap space team come July 1.
Now let’s look at the Spurs’ free agents.
Cedi Osman 6’7” - Unrestricted Free Agent
72 games played (88% of season), 17.6 minutes
Position - Forward. Osman played 66% of his minutes at the 4 and 30% of his minutes at the 3 this past season per CleaningTheGlass.com
Free agent status - Barring an extension with the Spurs before June 30, Osman will be an unrestricted free agent with a $12.6 million cap hold on the Spurs’ books. If the Spurs want to re-sign him while staying over the cap, they can do so using his full bird rights.
Osman should have multiple playoff teams trying to sign him for a role off the bench this offseason, with his wide open 3-point shot making and movement on and off the ball.
NBA Experience - At 29, Osman has 7 years of NBA experience.
I wrote an in-depth profile on Osman entering free agency back in April:
Dominick Barlow 6’9” - Restricted Free Agent
33 games played (40% of season), 12.7 minutes
Position - Center. Barlow played 90% of his minutes at the 5 per CleaningTheGlass.com
Free agent status - The Spurs have until June 29 to tender Barlow a $2.2 million qualifying offer to make him a restricted free agent. Should San Antonio want to re-sign Barlow above the veteran minimum, they could do so with non-bird rights.
NBA Experience - At 21, Barlow has 2 years of NBA experience.
You can read an in-depth profile on Barlow here:
Sandro Mamukelashvili 6’9” - Restricted Free Agent
46 games played (56% of season), 9.8 minutes
Position - Big. Mamu played 69% of his minutes at the 4 and 31% of his minutes at the 5 per CleaningTheGlass.com
Free agent status - Similar to Barlow, the Spurs have until June 29 to tender a $2.7 million qualifying offer to Mamukelashvili to make him a restricted free agent. If they wanted to re-sign him to a deal above the veteran minimum, they could do so using his early bird rights.
NBA Experience - At 25, Mamukelashvili has 3 years of NBA experience.
While he doesn’t get a ton of minutes, Mamu is the type of veteran player a team can add as a versatile frontcourt player who can provide depth in the event a player gets injured or if one the big men is in foul trouble during a game.
If he doesn’t return to San Antonio, I can still see other NBA teams having interest in trying to provide a roster spot to Mamu.
The Two-Way Free Agent - David Duke Jr.
The Spurs have until June 29 to tender a qualifying offer to Duke Jr. to return on a two-way contract next season.
It’ll be interesting to see how the Spurs handle their two-way roster spots this offseason. The Spurs already have RaiQuan Gray and Jamaree Bouyea returning on two-way deals, but they also have two second round picks in the June draft and limited roster room on the 15-man roster.
Should the Spurs try to sign any of their own free agents?
