Spurs' Calendar Overview Until October
Here's what's in store for the San Antonio Spurs as the offseason continues, looking at the calendar from today (July 18) until the month of October.
Let’s look at some of the key dates and events regarding the San Antonio Spurs up until October.
Closing out Summer League
The Spurs have just one scheduled game remaining. Their final scheduled game is Friday at 7:30 CT against Philadelphia. Their last game hasn’t been scheduled yet, because the Spurs could go into the Summer League playoffs, currently holding a perfect 3-0 record.
Wemby in the Olympics - July 27 through as late as August 10
Victor Wembanyama is the only member of the Spurs organization who will be participating in the 2024 Olympics in France starting July 27. If his team, France, goes to the Gold Medal game, they would finish as late as August 10.
Julian Champagnie’s Contract Guarantee Date - August 1
Champagnie’s non-guaranteed contract will fully guarantee for $3 million next season, as long as he remains on the roster past August 1. Seeing as how the Spurs avoided having to waive him when signing Chris Paul and trading for Harrison Barnes, one would expect Champagnie’s contract to guarantee.
Media Day and Training Camp Begin - Early October
The NBA hasn’t provided the dates for media day or training camps, but those events usually take place within the first week of October.
The Spurs still have 2 open two-way roster spots to fill out. One might go to second round draftee Harrison Ingram, and perhaps the other will go to someone else on the Summer League roster.
Though the Spurs’ standard roster is full with 15 players, the Spurs can still sign players to exhibit 10 contracts, aka training camp deals. A team can take up to 21 players into training camp when including two-way players.
Preseason Schedule - October 7 through October 17
The Spurs’ preseason schedule will take place starting October 7 against Oklahoma City, then they’ll face Orlando, Utah, Miami, and then close out the preseason schedule October 17 against Houston.
Once the preseason concludes, the Spurs have to trim their roster down to 15 players on standard contracts, and 3 players on two-way contracts. These moves need to be done before the first game of the regular season.
Regular Season Schedule Begins - Late October
The NBA hasn’t released the regular season schedule yet, but that usually begins about a week after the preseason finishes, so somewhere in late October.
Last season the NBA released the regular season schedule in mid-August, so perhaps that will be the timeframe to watch.
Team Options - October 31
Finally, the Spurs will have until October 31 to exercise team options for the following players for the 2025-2026 season. These are usually more of a formality, and unless a team really doesn’t see a player as part of their future going into next season, then they wouldn’t exercise the team option.
Victor Wembanyama - $13.4 million team option
Jeremy Sochan - $7.1 million team option
Malaki Branham - $5 million team option
Blake Wesley - $4.7 million team option
