The San Antonio Spurs have back-to-back Rookie of the Year award winners. Victor Wembanyama was named Rookie of the Year for the 2023-24 season a season ago, and now, a year later, his teammate Stephon Castle has been named Rookie of the Year for the 2024-25 season.

Castle joins Wemby, Tim Duncan, and David Robinson as other Spurs players who have also won the award.

Castle overwhelmingly won the award, with the NBA releasing the final results.

In 81 games, Castle averaged 14.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, 4.1 assists, 2.2 turnovers, and 0.9 steals in 26.7 minutes per game. Castle attempted 12.2 field goals and 4.1 three-pointers, achieving 42.8% shooting from the floor and 28.5% accuracy from beyond the arc.

As a rookie, he led the Spurs with 344 total free throw attempts (2.4 per game), achieving a free throw accuracy of 72.4%.

He started in over half of the team’s games this season (47), initially as a starter, transitioning to the bench after the team acquired De’Aaron Fox, and then finishing the season back in the starting lineup while Fox underwent finger surgery.

During the regular season, Castle was named the Western Conference Rookie of the Month twice and was a nominee for the award every month of the season.

Back in early April, Castle was confident he was going to win the award, saying:

“I feel like, at this point, I pretty much got it locked up. I mean really just continuing to be myself, not really think about it when I’m in the game. Just game by game, I feel like I’m more confident to be able to say that I am it.”

In February, during All-Star Weekend, Castle won the MVP award for the 2025 Rising Stars Challenge. He was the runner-up in the Slam Dunk contest, narrowly losing to the winner, Mac McClung.

Here are some of Castle’s season highs in various stat categories:
