The Latest: Spurs' Summer League Schedule, Devonte' Graham Contract Update
The San Antonio Spurs released the schedule for their Sacramento and Las Vegas Summer League games, and there's been an update on Devonte' Graham's contract.
Friday the San Antonio Spurs released their game schedule for the Sacramento California Classic and the Las Vegas NBA 2K25 Summer League in July.
Here are some notable players that were drafted in the first round the Spurs will face during those games:
July 6: Charlotte - Tidjane Salaun
July 7: Sacramento - Devin Carter
July 13: Portland - Donovan Clingan
July 14: Atlanta - Zaccharie Risacher
July 16: New Orleans - Yves Missi
July 19: Philadelphia - Jared McCain
The Spurs haven’t released their Summer League roster yet, but some players expected to be on the team include: Sidy Cissoko (2nd year with Spurs), Stephon Castle (drafted 4th Wednesday), Harrison Ingram (drafted 48th Thursday), RaiQuan Gray (two-way player), Jamaree Bouyea (two-way player), Riley Minix, and DJ Horne.
The Spurs will have a 5th game in Vegas, though that one will depend on how well the team plays. If the Spurs are a Top-4 team in Vegas play, they’ll go into the Summer League playoffs. If they’re not a Top-4 team, then they’ll play another team that also wasn’t a Top-4 team.
Devonte’ Graham Contract Update
According to Andrew Lopez of ESPN, the San Antonio Spurs and Devonte’ Graham have agreed to move Graham’s partially guaranteed contract deadline from July 1 to July 8.
Graham’s contract for next season is partially guaranteed for $2.85 million, but his full deal would have guaranteed for $12.65 million if the Spurs didn’t waive him before July 1.
Now his full deal won’t guarantee until July 8. By doing this, the Spurs have some flexibility entering free agency Sunday. Here are some of the routes the Spurs now have open:
A) Operate as a cap space team - The Spurs can go into free agent negotiations knowing they have the POTENTIAL to open up to $26.4 million in cap space by waiving Graham, Julian Champagnie ($3 million), Charles Bassey ($2.5 million), and letting their own free agents sign elsewhere. While the Spurs know this is an option, they don’t have to make those roster cuts unless they get a verbal commitment from a free agent, OR if they send an offer sheet to a restricted free agent, then yes, they actually have to have that cap space open before sending the offer sheet. By operating as a cap space team, the Spurs would have access to the room mid-level exception of $8 million to sign a free agent, or trade for a player into the exception.
B) Operate as an over-the-cap team - By keeping Graham on the roster for the first 8 days of free agency, the Spurs can operate as a team over the salary cap, with access to the non-tax MLE of $12.9 million and the bi-annual exception of $4.6 million to sign or trade for players.
C) Tradeable contract - If a trade comes along that is close to Graham’s $12.6 million contract range, the Spurs could look to move Graham in a trade, instead of just waiving Graham outright before July 1, and only having a $2.85 million cap hit on the books.
Free Agent Guides for All 30 Teams
Back on May 22, I set out on a goal of writing free agent guides for all 30 teams, where you could easily find accessible information about free agents - their stats, shooting breakdowns, age, NBA experience, contract situation, latest rumors, and whether or not I thought each free agent would be a good addition to the Spurs.
I’ve now completed the free agent guides for all 30 teams:
